Disasterous Date Finale (Repost)
So the comic is FINALLY updated today. After 5 days, its finally up. I know you guys were so anxious to see the finale of Disasterous Date so sorry to keep you waiting for a week.
Well, Niece Web's first story is finally over, and what a story it was. Originally, I didn't even want to start the comic out as a story. I wanted to just do stand alone comics, but later on I decided to make a story to introduce the characters.
Now that this story is over, what is next for the Niece Web comic? Will there be another story? Will it end? Of course the comic isn't going to end, it just started! What I'm going to do is do stand alone comics for a little while and then start up a new story. Before I drew up the Disasterous Date comics, I did 5 individual comics, so over the next few weeks I'll put those up. I'll warn you right now that you'll see a little step backwards in art quality because I drew these comics first before Disasterous Date, but its not too distracting. You'll love them, they're funny. The next story is going to be a shocker, so stay tuned for that in the next few weeks or so.
Remember when I said there will be a new comic today? I'll take that back and just leave it for the regular Saturday update. I have a ton of school work to do, and plus I want today's comic to settle in for awhile since its a finale.
Comic Commentary for Niece Web#11
This finale for Disasterous Date is a little bigger than the other comics, and let me tell you, it was SO hard to do. Well, it wasn't hard to do, but it ate up so much of my important "college student" time. But it was worth it though, after all this comic is a labor of love. Besides, I did a bigger comic because I couldn't fit in what I wanted to do in the standard size comic. Who knows, maybe all finales in the future will be this big to make them seem more special.
So this comic is chock full of apologies. After Neoma and Melony knock Dark Spider out, they realize that it was pretty stupid of them to be fighting. I don't know why they couldn't realize it before they knocked out poor Dark Spider, but that's life. So Neoma takes the initiative to apologize to Melony for starting the fight, and Melony apologizes for provoking Neoma and they make up. But hopefully you guys noticed something wrong with those apologies. If not, then thank god we have Winter to notice things like that. She notices that Neoma and Melony didn't discuss or resolve the underlying feelings behind the fight...just the action of the fight itself they apologized for...
I personally hate that! There has been many a time I saw arguments and/or participated in arguments where it ends without resolving the feelings or anger behind it. If any apologizes are given, its for the direct actions that cause the argument and that's it. Its like saying, "I'm sorry that I had to hit you" but don't explain why you had to. So I had Neoma and Melony do this to kind of make fun of these types of apologies and for social commentary. Of course Winter knows that without resolving the feelings behind conflicts, they will keep happening again and again. Hey, it makes for more storylines for the comic, so I'm happy with it.
The nieces apologies were funny. They aplogoized for instigating the fight, but their reasoning behind it made it back handed. It was like saying they could be mean to people all they want and all they have to do is apologize afterwards and it will be all better again. Sorry, but it doesn't work like that. Again, I'm all too familiar with this while growing up, so this is my way of making fun of those apologies.
Near the end of the comic, Dark Spider in his unconscious state visualizes his friends making fun of him for the date. That was a werid scene because it seems like his friends are telepaths. But they're not, its all in Dark Spider's head....kind of his way of justifying the date. Zone's little comment about Melony's freckles is real, and it was just me breaking the fourth wall a little bit. Her freckles are supposed to be brown, but I forgot to color them in a few of the comics. Isn't Dark Spider such a nice guy though...as long as Neoma and Melony got their friendship fixed, the date was a success. Ha, in real life I would've been pissed.
I could go on forever and forever about my own comic, as you can see, haha. This commentary is so long. But hopefully you all find this informative and it forces you to read my work with new eyes. I'll stop here. This storyline has been a pleasure to do, and you'll see more like it down the road.
